UCL Welfare Society

UCL Mooting/Debating Society

The Mooting and Debating Society at Universal College Lahore (UCL) is an active and vibrant part of campus life, offering students numerous opportunities to develop their public speaking, critical thinking, and argumentative skills. The society organizes and participates in various debating competitions, both locally and internationally.

One of the notable events hosted by UCL's Debating Society is the Shahjiwana International Debating Championship. This prestigious tournament, first held in 2003, was the first international debating competition organized by a Pakistani institution. It attracts participants from countries like India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia, making it a significant event in the South Asian debating circuit.

Additionally, the society also organizes the Panjnad Mooting Competition, another major event that emphasizes legal arguments and courtroom procedures, allowing law students to hone their advocacy skills in a competitive environment.

Overall, the Debating Society at UCL plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of intellectual rigor and public discourse among students, helping them excel in both national and international arenas.
