Pathway to undergraduate degree

The CHESS programme has been designed by the London School of Economics and Political Science for the University of London and is suited for those students who do not meet the standard entry requirements of the degree programmes. Students who are 18 years of age or above are eligible to enter the CHESS programme. In view of the special entrance requirements, only those students who are studying for the course at an institution authorised by the London School of Economics and Political Science, are allowed to register. Recognition panels, comprising senior staff members of the London School of Economics closely monitor the performance of the recognised institution every year to ensure that standards are maintained and that necessary academic support systems are in place.

Academic Equivalence of CHESS

The CHESS programme is equivalent to the first year of the BSc degree. Students study the same courses and sit in the same classes as the BSc students and also appear for the same exams. On successfully completing the programme, students progress to the second year of the degree.

CHESS as entry to the Degree Programmes in the UK Successful CHESS students who have attained the required grades or marks and have taken the necessary Foundation subjects are considered by a number of British universities to be eligible for entry as internal students into the second year of their degree programme
